wise women

“The first deity was a female.
The Great Goddess, the Great Mother”

Today's world is becoming more hurried and busy. An artist can try to ride the motion and speed, and find some authentic expression through the spontaneity this generates. Alternatively, as in my case, an artist can choose to stop, go inside to a place of stillness, and try to find something both personal and universal. I found the female figure presented here. To me this figure represents wisdom (Sophia), creativity, and life. She has three fingers to symbolize, through that number, the unity of mind, spirt and body. Perfect health in our 3 bodies - material, psychical and noetical. The fig she carries is a symbol of fertility, and also for me a symbol of my Mediterranean roots. The clay she is made of is also a link to those roots - my great-grandmother was a potter. So the figure symbolises both Life in a universal sense, and my own life.
